After a few weeks on the African Continent, the time had finally come to begin heading back home to the Seattle area, and this long, multi-day journey would start with the flight back to Atlanta, which was on a Boeing 777, much like the flight to Johannesburg. This time, however, it was on Delta’s Spirit of Atlanta plane. After the long 16 hour flight back to the states (Longest flight I have taken at this point), I had some time to waste at Atlanta’s airport, which led to some time spent at the Club lounge that I had visited when I was in Atlanta on the way to South Africa, and then with just a bit of time before the departure to head back to Seattle, I made a visit to the airport location of an Atlanta Icon which I had enjoyed during a previous visit to the area, the Varsity. After grabbing a burger, fries and a drink, it was time to head to the gate to hop aboard the flight to get back home to Seattle. This was the first flight I had taken in a long while aboard a Boeing 757. Within a day or two of getting back home, I was able to make the change to my world map to include my visit to South Africa and Botswana. And that is the end of the South Africa trip. Visiting this country was a real eye-opening experience. There were the amazing sights of the coastal sunrise in Durban, the Valley of 1000 Hills, Table Mountain and the wildlife of Kruger National Park. There were opportunities to gain insight and to reflect due to seeing the remnants of Apartheid while speaking with those who lived it. While some people have concerns about visiting the Rainbow Nation, it is a country worth visiting, and I would gladly make a return visit in the future. It will definitely provide you with scenic beauty, and plenty of learning opportunities as well. Thank you for reading this trip report about the South Africa trip, and I hope you will come back for more on Coasting with Culture! -Take Care and Safe Travels |
