2019 Texas & Arkansas Trip |
The next part of our trip would involve making stops for coasters at smaller venues. Much like my visit back in 2017, these stops would be relatively short, starting first about an hour or so away from SeaWorld at ZDT’s Amusement Park. While I had been here back in 2017 and they had not added anything new since that visit, it would be a new coaster for Wes and Nicole, and since it was a fun ride, it was still worth the stop for me too. The coaster at this parking being the unique Switchback. This wooden coaster which is like many others until it gets to a point where it heads to a spike that leads to it going back through the course in reverse. Even with having ridden it before, the idea of a shuttle wooden coaster is really bizarre, especially with it having a traditional lift hill to start the ride. Once we had a chance to take a few laps, we continued for a bit of a drive North to the town of Hurst for a stop at Alley Cats, an entertainment complex with bowling, an arcade, restaurant and amusement rides. The one that we came for was their SBF Visa Spinner, Rattler. This one was a bit different than many of the other ones ridden over the past few years in that the sign had an opening that the train would pass through at the top. After getting riding rattler, we went to our hotel for the night as it was late, and there would be more to ride in the morning, as we started the next day riding over to the town of Canton for Yesterland Farm. This farm has a selection of amusement rides that are open as part of festivals that take place during different holidays. For this weekend, with Easter being the next day, the place was filled with Easter eggs, bright spring colors, and a giant Easter bunny that sat atop of the main buildings of the farm as a part of their Bunnypalooza festival. The farm itself specializes in Christmas trees when the season comes, so we saw some fairly young trees that were growing for the future, and they also offered a variety of animals to see, including a coop where you could see fairly young chicks as well as eggs that were soon going to hatch. As for the rides, they have a large variety of classic carnival rides, as well as two coasters. The first that we rode was Santa’s Runaway Sleigh, which was also Nicole’s 350th coaster! After that, we went over to ride the other coaster called Range. The sign out front warned that this was a rough ride, which you wouldn’t think of a smaller coaster like it being rough, but in riding it would prove the sign correct as it was a rough ride, which was a bit of the fun in riding it. The cow print on the side was fitting as it may have been like being in the middle of a stampeding herd of cattle. As we were wrapping up our visit, we went ahead and checked out the General Store, which had a wide selection of items to purchase, including some great food items that were made from items grown on their farm. They offered samples of their salsa which had a real kick to it in spiciness, but was all kinds of awesome! Among the items available for sale in the shop was another Dr. Pepper flavored item, and that was Dr. Pepper licorice. While the other Dr. Pepper flavored items I had during this trip were great, this item left a bit to be desired, but not everything is going to be a winner. With that, it was time for us to head to our final park in Texas. The credit stops were fun to make, especially ZDT’s for Switchback and Yesterland Farm for their Easter festival, but now it is time for the main park of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. |
